12x12 Canvas

Hey there blog readers, I'm here with another project featuring one of the new lines, Just Because and QQ's 12x12 canvas.

Canvas is one of my favorite mediums, so needless to say, I had a ball with this!!  Creating the frame around the edge was really easy, but takes a little patience.

I started by randomly tearing all 4 edges off of a scrap piece of 12x12 paper. (final size was about 10.5 square give or take) I used repositionable adhesive to adhere the scrap paper to the center of the canvas. Next, I used 2 different stamps and embossing ink to stamp on the exposed canvas, 1 side at a time. Once I finished one side, I poured WOW Embossing Powder in Opaque Bright White on the image and then tapped off the excess. Once all 4 sides were coated, I removed the scrap paper and  used a heat gun to melt the powder.
I then used an inking sponge and Quick Quote's PowderPuff Chalking Inks in Baja Blue, Mocha Mama, and Green With Envy to add color to the edges.  I re-adhered the scrap paper to the center and continued to add ink until I was satisfied with the look.  (the frame took on the shape of the scrap paper)
I used a damp paper towel to remove the excess ink from the embossing.  The embossing acts as a resist and you will see all of the different inks in the recesses.  This is one of my favorite techniques.
I lightly spritzed the center with misting inks in 2 different colors before adding photos and embellishments to the canvas.  I matted the photo using JB-400 and then framed it with images cut from JB-100 and JB-400.  I cut strips from the new vellum strips to serve as part of my title and journaling.

I added the hot air balloon from the 8x10 Chipboard Balloon set.

I added texture to the hand cut items using buttons and twine.

Thanks for stopping by today.   More great projects are coming up, so check back soon!!

One Fine Day To Play

Hey there, Tanisha here with a cute layout that I made in just minutes.  Sometimes I run short on time and find that it's difficult to labor over a page.  In those cases, I rely heavily on using quick and easy techniques to get a page done so I can move on to completing the million other things on my to-do list.
I used One Fine Day to draw muted shades of colors from the photo.  I cut the clock from vellum to help carry the theme of the layout and then added a little depth by inking the edges of the photo mat and added a little texture by using buttons and felt alphabet.

Cute right?  See, quick and simple doesn't have to be plain and boring!!

Birds Of A Feather

Happy Saturday!! I'm so psyched about the holiday weekend for the fact that I get a few days off from work! Phew, sometimes you just need a break!  Right?  Hopefully a long weekend equates to some much needed scrap time.

Today, I have a couple of projects that I created for Creative Imaginations using Debbie Mumm's gorgeous Song Birds Collection. This is one of those lines that I fall more and more in love with every time I look at it. It's filled with adorable little treasures like the tiny peach flowers in the die cut pack to the clever little phrases that inspired the title for my layout.

I started my layout by layering patterned papers, cardstock, and a border punched strip of wood to create the background. I lightly spritzed the lightest part of the background with Luminarte Butternut Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist.

Since this line has a lot of nature elements, I added flowers, a berry spray, and jute to add to textural interest.  I also layered a couple of birds that I fussy cut from patterned paper on top of a cardboard house from Basically Bare.

I used a paint brush and Luminarte Butternut Radiant Rain Shimmering Mist to paint the chipboard photo corners.

I used the design of the layout and some of the same elelements to create a frame.

Here are some close ups of the details.

Creative Imaginations Products used:
Debbie Mumm Song Birds
Petaloo (flowers and berry spray); Buzz and Bloom (chipboard photo corners); Basically Bare (Cardboard House); Quick Quotes (ink)

Thanks for stopping by today.  Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!!

Latest From Purple Cows

Well would you look at that...another blog post this week. Woohoo!!

Today, I'm sharing a couple of projects that I created for Purple Cows.  Have you seen the new CraftGeek line, yet.  If not, check it out on the website.  I used a PunchIt on both of these layouts.

I used PunchIt Solstice and Creative Imaginations corrugated paper to create my own embellishments here.  All other papers and embellishments are from Momenta.

I used the PunchIt Autumn to punch designs in the corner of this layout to help frame the photos of my cutie pies and the WindIt  to create "hangers" for the banner.

Thank you for stopping by today!!  Until next post...have a scrappy day!

Tin Type

I am so excited to share with you my first Quick Quotes blog post!!

The Tin Type collection has my handsome little men written all over it. I love the muted colors with the surprise pop of orange. I wanted to play up the contrast so I matted the Tin Type 100 side A with a 2nd sheet of side B and added a strip from Tin Type 500 across the layout.

To help carry out the "steam punk" theme, I used cog wheels masks and embossing powder on my background.

I inked the gears from the Balloon - 8" x 10" Chipboard with Mocha Mama PowderPuff Chalking Inks and lightly embossed with copper embossing powder.
I cut word strips from Tin Type 500 and used as journaling on my layout. I also inked throughout the layout with Mocha Mama PowderPuff Chalking Inks and Baja Blue PowderPuff Chalking Inks.

That's all for now! See you next post!

Getting Back on Track

Well would you look at that...2 blog posts in one day!

I haven't posted here in a bit, but I think I have a good excuse. The events of past 2 weeks have been incredibly emotional! It started with the sudden death of someone that I admired, the coordinator for the OEM (Office of Emergency Management) team that I volunteer with. He was just days away from his 50th birthday and had a massive heart attach while driving to a fire. He was also the Captain of the fire department in my town. The following day my (non-biological) grandmother died. She was 88 years old and lead a pretty full life until she fell ill a couple of months ago. They had both touched so many lives and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew them.

So my Thanksgiving holiday was sandwiched between 2 funerals. I did get to spend the holiday with my family and I met my 3 month old niece for the first time, too. She's so beautiful...oh and did I mention that she's named after me? My brother gave her a "T" name, like his 3 sisters, and her middle name is Renee like mine. The events of the past 2 weeks have reminded me of how amazingly precious life is. I am definitely grateful for every moment of every day and for having the opportunity to come in contact with wonderful people.

I'm also grateful that I get to share my passion, right here, with you.

I whipped up this really simple, but elegant Christmas card using one of the foil papers from Creative Imaginations' Night Divine line.

This layout, featuring my adorable little monsters, was recently published in the Winter 2011 issue of Scrapbooking & Beyond magazine. I used and older line from Bo Bunny that I love so much, 'Tis the Season, along with some die from Cheery Lynn Designs and Spellbinders. Check out the Gadget Girls section of the issue or SB&Beyond website for your chance to win the featured tool, Spellbinders Presto Punch. It was really fun and easy to work with!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!! Have a wonderful week!

What The Hay?!

My boys sure know how to have fun! I took them to Parker Gardens this past Sunday for a day filled with hayrides, hay slides, and pumpkin picking. They even had a blast making up their own games...the favorite being throwing hay in the air.

Xander was very apprehensive about the hay slide, but once I convinced him to go (actually, I bribed him with the promise of chocolate candy) he enjoyed himself. Donovan was an old pro, having gone up and down the slide last year.

Doesn't this look like fun? They had hay EVERYWHERE!! Oh to be a kid again!

I can't get enough of that happy face!

Caught On "Film"

One of my fellow OEM volunteers captured this photo of Donovan, Xander, and I just before the Rolling Thunder ride last Sunday. When I look at this photo, there are so many details that jump out at me. Donovan, who is growing so fast, is in between sizes, so his new clothes are a little big. He loves skulls and hoodies. Xander also loves hoodies, but can be coerced to leave the house with his 2nd choice, his denim jacket. He always has a toy in his hand or pocket. In this case, he's holding a diecast car of Finn McMissile, his favorite character from Cars 2. I was captured wearing 3 hats: volunteer, mother, and photographer.

Thanks for taking a little peek into my world! Have a great week!

A Swingin' Summer

Summer is my favorite season. I anticipate its arrival and am sad to see it depart. One of the fun activities that I planned this Summer was to visit different parks and playgrounds with the boys. As always, the swings were a big hit!! Both boys made HUGE strides on the swings.

For one, Donovan finally learned to swing without a push. This is big for both of us because he was getting too heavy to push...my boy weighs 88 lbs! I had to really plant my feet and prep my wrists to push him. He credits his newly found swinging skills to his cousin Jaden who told him to lean back and spread his legs in a "v". Somehow this worked better that the way I tried to show him...LOL.

photo taken at Echo Lake Park

Mr. Xander has grown bolder on the swings. No matter how high I pushed him, he wanted to go higher! He just giggles and screams "higher, mommy, push me higher"!

photo taken at Palisades Park, Ross Dock Picnic Area

I love that such simple things make them happy!! Hopefully the cold weather stays away a little longer so we can enjoy more days at the park.

Enjoy your day!
