Cars 2 Review

The boy and I were so looking forward to seeing Cars 2 in the movie!! We had the opportunity to attend a pre-screening of it last Saturday and loved it!! Both Donovan and Xander thought the movie was awesome...so did I. I loved the strong message (the testing of the Mater/Lightning friendship) and the visuals were so amazing that almost forgot that I was watching a cartoon.

Gnomeo & Juliet: Review

I had the opportunity to take the boys to a pre-screening of Gnomeo and Juliet this past Tuesday. I have to admit, this was one of the most adorable movies I've seen in a while!! I enjoyed the storyline, which is a twist on the story of Romeo and Juliet and I have a feeling that this movie is going to turn into a classic as well. It was fun, colorful, and most definitely funny. Donovan and Xander giggled through the entire movie and have been going around the house and singing some of the songs.

I don't want to give away too much of the film, but here's a clip for your viewing enjoyment. Gnomeo & Juliet opens in US theaters on Feb 11th. It's a wonderful family film!

Disney’s Mickey Mote works with any Disney Preschool DVD that includes the Discovery Mode™ feature – an interactive “Watch & Play” feature on the DVD. All parents have to do is program the remote control - there’s an easy and quick set-up guide in each DVD- and select the Discovery Mode feature on the menu screen. Within minutes, kids will be easily responding to questions, throughout the story, about scenes they just watched by pressing one of four color-coded buttons on the device -- a yellow star, green circle, orange triangle or blue square – to click in their responses. Discovery Mode features include two levels of play, which provides more challenging questions as the child grows.

The Mickey Mote can be used with any Disney Preschool DVD that includes the Discovery Mode feature.

REVIEW

To get straight to the point, my boys and I give it a 5 out of 5.

This is more than just an average DVD. The Mickey Mote that allows your child to watch and play along with the Disney characters!! They get to answer fun questions about colors, shapes, and sized in mode I and then move on to a higher level of play in Mode II. Your child can also enjoy the DVD straight through without using the Mickey Mote.

My boys are 2 1/2 and 7 and are both Mickey fans. They've watched and played along with the DVD every day since the day we received it in the mail. It's a big hit!

I found setting up the Mickey mote to be very easy...even though I fudged it up a bit the first time, I was able to go back and easily correct my mistake by following the instructions from the beginning. Disney offers 11 other titles that can be used with the Mickey Mote.

Club Penguin Game Day | Disney Interactive Studios

Someone is bouncing off the wall with excitement because Club Penguin Game Day has arrived at our house! Not only does Donovan (my soon to be 7 year old) get to play for hours on end, he also gets to help me review the game here on my blog.

Club Penguin Game Day, released in Sept 2010, is a series of party games for the Wii and Nintendo DS based on Disney's popular online game, Club Penguin. The game can be played in single player mode or with up to 4 people at a time. Players are able to customize their penguins and compete in challenges such as Java Sack, Bean Balance, Fast Freeze, Sled & Slide and Sumo Smash. Players attempt to conquer as much territory as possible and are rewarded by earning coins and other items as well as unlocking other challenges.

What I like most about this game (and other Disney Interactive Studio games) is its easy start up. Playing was as simple as putting the game in the console, creating a character, and chosing a challenge. Each challenge has a "learn" button. Click on it and the instructions are broken down into 4 basic steps. Some challenges include "advanced" instructions for more in depth play.

Donovan liked playing the games because "they're fun". I asked him which challenge was his favorite and his response was "every single game".

Disney Holiday Event

I've had so many projects to post recently, that I have yet to have a chance to tell you all about the wonderful time the boys and I had at Disney's Holiday Event last month. There were a few stations set up around the room for families to visit. Being a scrapbooking mom, you can imagine that my boys were instantly drawn to the arts and crafts tables. They had a chance to paint a canvas, make Christmas ornaments, and even decorate cookies...which barely made it home in one piece as they were devoured by my little cookie monsters!

Then Donovan realized that there were 5 plasma TVs, each with a different interactive Disney game hooked up to it. Each of the games were released in November 2010. Disney Party Hits was one of the faves. It's a karaoke style game that takes things a step further because there's a vocal training option which helps you practice in order to get a better score. Once you are ready to play, there are a list of songs featuring Disney's singing stars to choose from. Donovan's favorite song is "It's On" from Camp Rock. Even 2 year old Xander got in on the act! He loves "Boom Boom Pow".

Donovan's ultimate #1 fave was this game...

I couldn't pry him off of it!! LOL! Here he is showing Sunny some of his awesome dance moves. The great thing about these games is that they 1. are easy to use...it's as simple as putting the disc in the Wii and 2. they get the kids moving! By the time I was able to convince Donovan that it was time to go (we had parent teacher conference that same night) he had worked up a serious sweat and was out of breath,but love every second of it! On our way back to New Jersey, I couldn't help but smile as his eyes lit up every time he talked about playing this game!

He still keeps reminding me that we have to put it on his Christmas list!

I Heart Faces "Orange"

If so, then Disney Parks would like you to apply to be on its third annual Walt Disney World Moms Panel. Disney Parks announced today its search for 10 park-savvy parents to reside on the 2010 Walt Disney World Moms Panel, www.disneyworldmoms.com, where they’ll join panelists from previous years to make this the largest panel to date.
Similar to asking a friend or neighbor for advice, this online forum, led by parents sharing their ultimate park smarts, serves as a resource for families planning a Disney vacation. Beginning today, Sept. 10, the Moms Panel search begins online, www.disneyworldmoms.com/2010 and will close on Sept. 20, or when 20,000 applications are received, whichever comes first.
Parents who pride themselves on being Walt Disney World vacation experts are encouraged to visit www.disneyworldmoms.com/2010 for what will be a magical seat on Disney’s Moms Panel.
“We realize moms and dads are online now more than ever, engaging in social media to research tips, connect with others and identify what’s best for their family. How to Apply:

The application process begins with a series of questions and three brief essays – about his or her family, why he or she is a great Walt Disney World vacation planner and his or her favorite Disney vacationing tip. In exchange for sharing their Disney knowledge, panelists will receive a vacation at Walt Disney World Resort for themselves and three other people.

Disney Dreamer's Academy Nominations

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Aug. 26, 2009) – Do you know a high school student that could use some encouragement in their lives or a push of excitement toward their goals?
Disney's Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey, an event created to inspire and enrich high school students, has started accepting nominations for the Class of 2010. From now until Oct. 2, 2009, parents, teachers, family and friends can nominate the high school students for the highly successful event, which will return to Walt Disney World Resort Feb. 11-14, 2010. Students can even nominate themselves.
One hundred teens from across the country with big dreams and aspirations will be selected to pack their bags – and their dreams – and head to Walt Disney World Resort, where they will learn about careers in everything from culinary arts to animation, set design and show production to the business of sports and more.
The Disney's Dreamers Academy class of 2010 will be made up of teens nominated through Oct. 2, 2009. Young dreamers – who must be enrolled in high school for the 2009-10 term – can be nominated by anyone, including parents, guardians, teachers, church members, social organizations – even themselves. Although a high GPA is not required, students must exhibit a desire to learn, perhaps needing only additional motivational support to excel. Nomination forms can be found at www.SteveHarvey.com/disneysdreamersacademy.
A select panel of judges including national radio personality Steve Harvey, community leaders and Disney representatives will choose the 100 finalists. The Disney's Dreamers Academy class of 2010 will be announced in November 2009.

"This program not only celebrates the achievements of the 200 students involved, it also demonstrates the part dreams play in realizing personal and professional goals."

During the 2009 Disney's Dreamers Academy, some of the guest speakers were Chef Jeff Henderson, National Football League Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow, pop/R&B recording artists Fantasia and Keyshia Cole, ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith and, of course, Steve Harvey.
Harvey said Disney's Dreamers Academy "is about inspiring our young people who oftentimes don't have the chance to be exposed to a variety of job skills and job opportunities and meet with people in the fields they're interested in. We want to give our young achievers the tools to become overachievers – to make their dreams a reality."

Castle Infatuation

Located in the heart of Magical Kingdom, Cinderella Castle is the iconic fairy-tale fortress that serves as the gateway to Fantasyland. I think it's quite obvious that I am totally in love with this beautiful, amazingly detailed structure. Watching the castle change colors at night made me feel like a little kid in awe of her favorite character!

Disney Guru

Well maybe I'm stretching that a bit...OK, a whole lot; but I must say that after my trip there 2 weeks ago for the African American Mom Blogger's Mixer, I realized that there was so much about Disney that I did not know that I feel like I could go on and on about all the fantastic things that Disney offers.

In 2003, I had visited Disney with my sister and her twins, a trip we like to call "Disney on a budget". We stayed in one of Disney's Value priced resorts (Disney All-Star Movies), but let me tell you there was nothing budget about it but the price. We received impeccable service and had a lot of the amenities (i.e. transportation, luggage pick-up, pool, etc.) as the other on-site resorts. There were only 4 of us so we stayed in the same room, however the resort also offers suites and connecting rooms. There are world premiere food courts on site and lots of fun pool side activities for the kiddos. We had a blast!

Fast forward to May 2009--I found out just how fine lodging and dining could get at Disney. Here's our group at Jambo House at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge-- an "African lodge-style resort boasting spacious accommodations that include kitchenettes/kitchens and multi-bedroom units. Featuring over 30 species of wildlife that roam free amidst 4 lush, tropical savannas, Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House offers you the unique opportunity to observe exotic animals in their natural habitat from special viewing areas throughout the Resort—and from the balconies of select Guest rooms." I loved just how authentic the decor was, I could have stood and stared for hours at all of the beautiful museum quality pieces that adorned the lodge.

We also visited the Treehouse Villas located at Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. These villas are what the cast members at Disney call "glamping"- Disney speak for glamorous camping. They are perfect for nature lovers and guests seeking a bit more privacy. "These stand-alone structures—elevated 10 feet off the ground on pedestals and beams—are nestled unobtrusively into natural glens alongside the Sassagoula River. The 60 three-bedroom vacation homes sleep 9 Guests and feature modern luxuries such as cathedral ceilings, granite countertops and flat-panel TVs. Scheduled to open summer 2009".

I found it very difficult to vacate the premises--truly gorgeous. If you happen to visit and see claw marks in the wood, that's just my fingernail marks from where I was dragged away! LOL!

We stayed at the magnificent Boardwalk Resort where we were greeted with "Welcome Home".

The meals we ate during our visit were absolutely divine! As I stated before, the last time I visited Disney, we were on a budget so pizza, chicken fingers and fries were our meals of choice, but Disney offers something for EVERY budget.

This time around, I dined at Jiko. This restaurant is located at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and fuses the bold flavors of traditional African, Indian and Mediterranean cuisine. It also boasts a wine list that features one of the largest selections of South African vintages in North America!

I ate lamb chops and escargot at Bistro de Paris, a french restaurant at Epcot center and dined on fantastic contemporary American cuisine at The Hollywood Brown Derby located in Disney's Hollywood Studios Theme Park. I think I speak for the whole group when I say, we were thoroughly impressed!

We were also able to tour the parks...fun stuff!! When some folks think of Disney, Magic Kingdom comes to mind, but Disney has 4 Theme Parks, 2 water parks, and countless other attractions for the whole family....there's just so much to see when you visit. Anyone staying on the Disney properties are also treated to Magic Hours, which are extended park hours (1 hour prior to park opening and 3 hours after close). Magic Hours are only available for 1 park per day, if you're plan on visiting, just check the schedule.

One of the amenities offered in the parks, which just thrilled me to pieces, was the Baby Care Center. The one we toured was located at Magic Kingdom and sort of serves as a refuge from the "busy-ness" of the park. If you little one has a meltdown and could use a quiet place to chill out, if you need to change diapers, nurse your baby, feed your toddler, warm a bottle then head on over to the baby center. This is also the place to purchase any of the baby needs that you may have forgotten: diapers, baby food, wipes, tylenol, etc...

The American Idol experience is one of the newer attractions at Disney's Hollywood Studios Park; it provides select guests with an opportunity to audition and sing onstage! The excitement unfolds before your eyes. This exhilarating attraction features all the glitz and glamour of the hit television series' stunning set, and gives you an opportunity to experience the thrill as if really at the show. Just like on American Idol, the audience decides the destiny of the singers onstage by voting as a member of the attraction audience on your interactive keypad at your seat. And if your audience votes you the best singer of the day at The American Idol Experience finale show, you will receive a Dream Ticket. If you are eligible to use the Dream Ticket, you will have an opportunity to make a reservation to sing in front of an American Idol representative at an actual regional audition of the American Idol TV show, where it's your moment to shine!

Epcot Center at night is quite a sight to behold--all of the countries lit up (except Morocco) and reflecting off the lagoon was truly beautiful and serene!

Then the show begins! IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, a mesmerizing fireworks, laser and water show featuring a rousing soundtrack, plays nightly for Guests of all ages in the World Showcase area in Epcot theme park.

The last stop of our trip bought to the Animal Kingdom for a viewing of Festival of the Lion King. Festival of the Lion King brings the familiar characters of the Disney animated classic film The Lion King from the movie screen to an action-packed stage at Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park. This scheduled 30-minute big-as-Broadway live show combines the pageantry of a parade with a tribal celebration.

After the show, we were treated to a photo shoot with a few members of the cast!

Did you know that Disney has a mom's panel? This group is comprised of moms and 1 dad who know everything there is to know about planning a trip to Disney World and are just waiting to share their wealth of information with you! While in Disney, our group hung out with 2 of the panelists: Doug (the only dad panelist and author of The Complete Idiots Guide To Walt Disney World) and Whitney who loaded me up with so much more info about WDW on our ride to the airport!

If you are considering a trip to Disney, plan it in advance in order to get the best pricing package for your budget. You and your family are sure to have FUN...Disney is after all, the happiest place on earth!

My Head Is Still Spinning

I had a phenomenal time hanging out with the Disney Mocha Moms at Walt Disney's African American Mom Bloggers Mixer this past weekend. Man, these women have seriously got it going on! In less than 72 hours, I have learned so much from them- they're all smart, funny, uber talented and had a plethora of information to share.

To be honest, I didn't know how the weekend was going to turn out. A lot of the moms had already known of each other through the "mom bloggers circuit" (for lack of better terminology) and had built a relationship of sorts and then there was me who had absolutely no idea about anyone else who blogged outside of the scrapbooking world. Well honey let me tell you, we clicked instantly and had an amazing time! Y'all know I'm crazy anyway, so you could just imagine! We cracked up laughing and chatted the weekend away! We ate, went on a world win tour of Disney, and just had a really great time!

I took close to 700 pictures (deleted 100 blurry ones in the airport), so yes I will be sharing some pictures and a few more blog posts about my Disney vacation. There's just waaaaay too much to put in this post...that and the fact that I can't think clearly 'cause it's after midnight and I am bone dead tired! LOL!
