The Rolling Thunder Rolled Through

Every 3rd Sunday in September bikers belonging to the Rolling Thunder Organization ride through several New Jersey towns, mine being one of them. Their major function "is to publicize POW-MIA issues: To educate the public that many American prisoners of war were left behind after all previous wars and to help correct the past and to protect future veterans from being left behind should they become prisoners of war-missing in action."

I volunteer for the Office of Emergency Management; when the Rolling Thunder comes to town, our responsibility is to block off streets so the bikers get to their destination safely. I can't tell you how many assholes there are that are so impatient and try to find a way to cut into the 2500 bikers like they didn't know ahead of time about the road blocks and the reason for it!! Anyway, I was so proud to stand out there waving to the bikers with a big old Kool Aid smile on my face, taking pictures as they passed by. It makes me happy to see so many people from all different backgrounds coming together for a common cause!

Wow, I bet they did produce some serious thunder wike 2500 bikes! Yikes! What a great cause though. I always get nervous when I see a person driving a motorcylce. But I hope the event went off smoothly with no emergencies.
