Seriously Debating

I've put a lot of thought into it and I think I want to resign from my teaching position at my LSS. It breaks my heart to say so because I love the idea of teaching (and the 20% discount), but honestly it's become a bit of a burden when it should be fun. January will be 1 year since I started teaching there, but for some reason I seem to have trouble getting people to take my classes. The women who sign up for classes there seem to be more interested in doing things like iris folding and tear bears, which are nice classes, but just not me...know what I mean. Not to mention the fact that I feel shoved into a creative box because 2 page layouts are stressed!! Seriously, we (the teachers) have been told by the owners that a lot of students complain about the one LO classes...they want 2 pages. So trying to come up with creative ideas for 2 page layouts (which I only do for myself like 10% of the time), while trying to keep the cost of the class down and figuring out which techniques people would be interested in are just.......I don't know, I guess I'm just rambling!

One of the reasons that I stuck in there so long is because a few of the teachers told me they had the same problem when they started as I seem to be having right now. But I guess I'm trying to figure if it's really worth it in the long run. I mean, I may get 2 students per class and maybe a kit but it takes time to shop for supplies, prepare samples, turn in my class description and supplies list, the gas that it takes to get to the class...that time could be spent with my boys and working on other scrap stuff. I thought teaching would help generate some extra income, but it doesn't seem to be working for me at this particular store.

If you have any advice, please feel free to share!

I know exactly what you're feeling - I was in the same place you are now 4 months ago. I was managing the DT and teaching at an LSS and after a full year I took a step back and realized that I wasn't enjoying it anymore.

I finally resigned and I've been so happy ever since. I was able to pick up a few more online teams, and I have much less stress then I did then. Yes, I miss the money sometimes but not enough to be sorry for making the decision.

You'll do whatever your heart tells you, and that will make it the right thing. ;)

I don't know how you feel, being that I am not a teacher at all. But I do see (from other experiences) that when a hobby becomes a "job", it's no longer fun. My only advice to you is to remember why we scrapbook in the first place and do what's going to make you happy and excited about scrapping! :)

I think you want out!!! If you are not happy doing it anymore, why do it??? Your creations are just stunning, and it might free up your time to join more DT's (I know you are a member of a lot of DT's at the moment) and do it because you love it again!

So I think if you are not happy and not enjoying it anymore, then stop! And free up the time you spend on getting layouts together, shopping, driving, teaching to do what makes you happy again!!!

You never know what doors this might open for you!

Best of luck on whatever you decide!

before teaching for suzy, i was at another lss, which has since closed. the owner wasn't very supportive of her teachers, which made more work for us. and while i LOVE scrapbooking, i didn't truly enjoy teaching until i had support and help in ordering all my products making sure they were on time, etc. and had an audience that appreciated my style. maybe there's another one close to you that you could share your love at?

i had the same exact issues teaching classes. it just wasnt for me and my "style" is hard to teach. it sounds like you've already made the decision

Funny I should stumble upon your blog at a time when I'm considering the very same thing. I have taught ONE class, and am already seeing the things that you mention. I love my LSS and the owner is awesome, I'm just thinking this whole thing is not worth the time and effort that has to be put in to it. Maybe I was meant to see this very post to help me in my decision...lol Good luck with yours!

i know exactly what you are talking about....
to me these girls that go to the lss for the most part (i know from experience here) are not as advanced (if you will) as those of us that are online and in the online world....they are beginner creative memories type and lets not forget they have to scraplift it to a T using and placing everything as an example...that aggrevates me....i say if it is not fun resign...

Girl I feel you and do what is BEST FOR TANISHA. I just recently stepped down from the Scrap N Art DT girl and it just started, some things you KNOW are not a good fit for you anymore, the obligations of teaching at an LSS store I am sure are at times just getting in the way of life. I feel you girl .. do what is best for you boo.

Head up ..

I know exactly how you feel because it's how I felt when I both worked and taught at my LSS for nearly 3 years. Don't get me wrong, I loved the atmosphere and the wonderful ladies that I met there but after awhile I felt like I was suffocating. My hobby had become my job and I was really starting to hate it.

Thankfully T was born and I was able to stay home with her so, I quit! HA! =)

You do what's best for you girly!

Take care!
